Mount Vernon Neighborhood in Dayton Ohio
Mount Vernon is a neighborhood of the city of Dayton Ohio. It is roughly bounded by Emerson Avenue on the west, Salem Avenue on the south, Linda Vista Avenue on the east, and W Norman Avenue on the North. it is south of the Fairview Neighborhood and north of the Daytonview neighborhood, just northwest of downtown Dayton.
This neighborhood has a population of roughly 700 people and offers a relaxed suburban feel that is much quieter than more densely populated areas closer to the center of Dayton. The median home value in Mount Vernon is $83,542 and the median rent price is $683.
History of Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon is considered to be a portion of the older suburb of Upper Daytonview. This area was first settled in the late teens and 20s of the 1900s. The area became popular with prominent residents of Dayton that had suffered through the flood of 1913 looking for higher elevations that would better suit them during times of high floodwaters. The area was once farmland and soon turned way to winding streets and picturesque homes and gardens with a park-like atmosphere. By 1930 the area had many amazing large colonial, tutor, Spanish revival, craftsman, and Georgian style homes making it the most elegant and prestigious new suburb in Dayton.
Today many of these grand historic beautiful homes on park-like land stand. The neighborhood is well known for its beautiful architecture, lush greenery and park-like surroundings, and great diversity of residents. This is a great neighborhood to settle into for families looking for decently rated schools and homes at a lower price point with plenty of space to either grow into or fully utilize as a large family.
